Lakeview takes 1st place in Region 1

SHARPSVILLE, Pennsylvania (WYTV) – In a match up between a pair of Region 1 titans, Sharpsville held a 6-0 lead at halftime over the visiting Lakeview Sailors. However, Lakeview scored twice on two long runs in the third quarter to take the lead at 12-6 which would result in the final score.

Following a decision by Sailor coach Dan York to punt the ball away while they had the ball inside Sharpsville territory, the Blue Devils turned the ball over on a Jake Doddo interception at the end of the first quarter. However, Sharpsville’s defense held Lakeview inside the red zone on a 4th down to deny the Sailors’ drive.

Under two minutes to play in the first half, Luke Henwood found Tyrin Peavy on a 4th down from the 19-yard line to score the game’s first six points.

Lakeview came out in the second half with an Austin Rice 61-yard scamper to pay dirt with just 2:06 off the clock to tie the game at 6. After holding the Sharpsville offense on a 4th and long play deep into Lakeview territory, the Sailors’ Marquis Spence broke a long run for the go-ahead touchdown to give them a 12-6 advantage.
