Man charged with assaulting ex-girlfriend

STRUTHERS, Ohio (WYTV) – A Poland man is at the Mahoning County Jail after Struthers police said he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s house earlier this week and assaulted her.

David F. Mathews, 28, is being held without bond on charges of aggravated burglary and criminal damaging. He is due in court next week.

Struthers police said Mathews had been watching the woman’s house and had been stalking her for days prior to the incident. A police report shows someone called 911 late Wednesday night and reported a man was on the back porch of a house on Como Street and was trying to kick in the door.

Police said Mathews broke into the house and assaulted the 21-year-old victim, separating her shoulder. They said the woman first called her father to pick up Mathews, but then she called police as he became more violent.

The report states Mathews had been drinking prior to the incident. He was arrested at the scene and the charges were filed Friday morning.
