Metal detectors used to search Route 11 shooting scene

Route 11 shooting search with metal detectors

LIEBERTY, Ohio (WYTV) – Investigators with the Ohio State Highway Patrol were out on Route 11 Friday at the scene of a police involved shooting.

Police were on the highway just south of Tibbetts Wick Road going over the area with metal detectors.

The site is where 25-year-old Cody Dempsey was shot by police following a Sept. 26 chase on the highway. Dempsey was driving a vehicle that was reported stolen and did not stop when signaled multiple times by police.

Police laid stop spikes in the road which caused Dempsey to pull over.

When police approached the vehicle, gunfire was exchanged. The coroner said Dempsey was shot eight times. He died a short time later.
