United’s ground game too much for Tigers

NEW MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Since falling to Columbiana two weeks ago, United has righted the ship as they defeated Springfield on the road tonight, 14-7. The Golden Eagles improve to 5-1 following an impressive defensive effort.

United scored twice in the first half to take a 14-0 lead at halftime. The Eagles had a distinct advantage in the contest in the time of possession category. United held the ball 34:14 while Springfield was only able to manage the football for 13:46. United’s defense forced 2 turnovers and held the Tigers to just 64 rushing yards as a team.

On offense, Caige Vincent led United with 25 carries for 118 yards. Colton Antram scored twice as he accumulated 73 rushing yards on 18 totes. The Eagles finished with a total of 239 rushing yards. United was able to convert 7 of 14 3rd down conversions.

For Springfield, Ryan Kohler led the team on the ground with 46 yards (8 carries). Nate Simboi led the air attack with 3 catches for 47 yards. The Tigers’ three-game winning streak ended tonight.

United will play host to South Range as Springfield (4-2) will take on East Palestine.
