DAYTON, Ohio (WYTV) – Newly released video taken during a police involved shooting at an Ohio Walmart in August shows a woman collapsing as she tries to flee from the store. The woman died and it may have been the scare of the ordeal that killed her.
The woman is a mother of two who was shopping with her children when John Crawford was shot dead by a police officer, while holding an air rifle.
Our sister station, WDTN in Dayton, shows a part of the story many have never heard.
In the video, Angela Williams and her two children are shopping on August 5, going through aisles and eventually hovering around the same place Crawford was.
They head in a different direction, continuing to shop but then Williams reacts to hearing the two shots. Panicked, she grabs her kids and starts to run.
The surveillance video continues to show them getting closer to the exit but then she collapses. Out of respect for her family, 33 WYTV and WDTN have decided not to show the video in its entirety.
Four minutes later, emergency crews arrive. Six minute later, they’re giving her CPR. All of this was happening with her children at her feet. Wal-Mart employees try to comfort the children.
Williams was taken to the hospital where she later died.
The coroner’s report said Williams suffered cardiac arrest while “fleeing from an armed individual.”
Crawford was also pronounced dead and an investigation into the shooting began.
Crime scene pictures show the empty gun box, bullets, the aisle Crawford died in and the BB gun he was holding. All ingredients to what the special prosecutor for the case called “a perfect storm of circumstances” that led to this tragic ending.
