Woman jailed for stealing beams from amusement park

CONNEAUT, Ohio (WYTV) – A Crawford County woman is in jail, accused of trying to sell parts from Conneaut Lake Park for scrap.

Police say Janelle Simmons, 21, stole 13 metal support beams from the Toboggan ride at the park and sold them to a Meadville recycler.

Park officials say the beams were worth more than $15,000 dollars because they were specially shaped to support the ride’s weight.

Police recovered the beams before they were destroyed.

Earlier this week, the Pennsylvania Attorney General asked a judge to delay the sheriff’s sale of the park.

The 122-year-old amusement park is scheduled to be sold November 7 to recoup more than $927.000 in back taxes.

Conneaut Lake Park trustees are hoping a financial reorganization will allow them to redevelop, revitalize and expand the amusement park.
