Gunfire hits man, riddles houses

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – People living in one Youngstown neighborhood said they don’t feel safe inside their homes anymore after some houses were hit by gunshots Saturday night.

Ray Sikora lives along Detroit Avenue and said the neighborhood is usually quiet. But Saturday night the streets were anything but calm.

Sikora said he was sitting with his wife watching television about 3 a.m. when he heard gunfire outside.

Some of those shots hit Sikora’s house. A bullet is still lodged there. And his house wasn’t the only one hit.

Sikora said a house farther up the street was hit and his neighbor had to be taken to the hospital after being hit in the thigh with a bullet.

Sikora is shaken and wants to take action to keep his neighborhood safe.

“I think I am going to start block watches,” Sikora said.

Block Watch President Bob Grey said he was surprised to hear about the shooting. He said since the bars closed down in the neighborhood a couple of years ago, it has been fairly quiet.

Sikora and Grey hope more people become interested in joining the block watch.

“We like everybody in the neighborhood to jump on board because people are up at all different hours of the night and somebody down the street may have seen this car go by,” Grey said.

Police have not released any information in the case and continue to investigate.
