Spiked drinks reported at Mineral Ridge homecoming

WEATHERSFIELD, Ohio (WYTV) – A call to the WYTV newsroom Monday morning by the parents of a student over alleged reports of spiked drinks at a homecoming dance this past weekend prompted Trumbull County Bureau Chief Jeff Levkulich to investigate.

J.P. and Kristen Snyder are looking for answers after the Mineral Ridge homecoming dance Saturday night at the Fifth Season Banquet Center.

“You could plainly see there were bottles and bottles of alcohol up top,” Kristen Snyder said.

Snyder is talking about the bar area. Some photos from students show where soft drinks were set up that night.

“There were kids walking behind the bar that was not attended. We asked if there was a person from the staff of the Fifth Season and they said no,” she said.

The Snyders believe several students had their drinks spiked, including their son Jacob, who they said is now being singled out by the school after he gave police permission to test his breath for alcohol.

“I would think they would show more concern because this happened and do further investigation to see what was really going on here,” Snyder said.

Even though police were there that night, there is no police report of the alleged incident. A person who answered the phone at the banquet center said she believed the alcohol did not come from the bar, but was possibly sneaked in.

Weathersfield Superintendent Damon Dohar would not give details, saying it is an internal matter that is under investigation. He did say they review every alleged incident.

“We try to do as best we can, what any reasonable people would do at that point and time. So I am sure if there was any situation that would occur at any event, we would make a change to make sure that does not occur,” Dohar said.

The superintendent would not say what Jacob Snyder’s punishment was, but his parents said he has been suspended for the next 10 days. But the suspension could be cut in half if he takes a drug and alcohol class.

He also will miss one, possibly two, football games.
