Education is focus of Fire Prevention Week

Fire prevention talk in Struthers

STRUTHERS, Ohio (WYTV) – Fire trucks may be pulling up to your child’s school this week. It is all part of Fire Prevention Week.

The Struthers Fire Department greeted students at Struthers Elementary School on Tuesday and talked to them about fire safety and how to escape a fire.

Chief Gary Mudryk said the lessons save lives.

“Have a plan to get out of your house in case of a fire. Know what to do. You can’t hide from fire. You have to have a plan with your family. Get out to a safe place, so we can come help you,” Mudryk said.

Mudryk said the talks help. He knows of situations where students didn’t have smoke detectors in their home and after telling firefighters, the homes got equipped.

Other local fire departments are holding open houses and educational programs all week to help educate the community on fire safety.
