NILES, Ohio (WYTV) – Niles tax investigator Heidi Powell pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of theft in office.
Powell was arraigned in Trumbull County Court where her bond was continued. The judge also mandated that she not seek or gain employment where she would work with money.
A pre-trial is scheduled for Oct. 15.
Powell resigned her position with the city last week and waived her right to a disciplinary hearing.
In her resignation letter to Mayor Ralph Infante, Powell apologized for her actions and the embarrassment she said she caused the city and her family.
Powell, 33, was suspended from her job after she was arrested on a charge of theft in office. She is accused of stealing $731 from the city tax office.
