Smith sentenced to 17 years in Youngstown shooting death

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A Youngstown man is headed to prison for 17 years after pleading guilty Thursday in Common Pleas Court to manslaughter.

Jamel Smith, 22, shot and killed Oneil Williams, of Detroit, on the city’s east side in November 2012.

Smith committed the crime while he was free on bond and waiting to plead guilty to his role in a drive-by shooting from 2011.

Smith also pleaded guilty to a weapons violation. He was originally charged with murder.
