CANFIELD, Ohio (WYTV) – South Range has named Nick Haught as Interim Head Football Coach, Princial Steve Rohan tells WYTV Sports. He has served as an assistant with the program the last several years, and also teaches Math in the school system.
Superintendent Dennis Dunham tells 33 Sports that he hopes to have a final decision made on the future of Yeagley as expeditiously as possible. He says the plan is to get through Friday night’s game at United, before making a final decision prior to the October 17th game against Columbiana.
Wednesday night, South Range veteran Coach Dan Yeagley and Athletic Director Wayne Allegretto were placed on indefinite administrative leave, after the football program used an ineligible player last week. The football program will also forefeit last Friday’s 49-7 win over East Palestine, along with a pair of junior varsity contests.
South Range Local School released the following statement around 7PM Wednesday night.
“South Range Local Schools have taken immediate action after being notified by the Ohio High School Athletic Association about a violation regarding an ineligible student athlete that participated in junior varsity and varsity football. As a result, the district has forfeited two of the junior varsity wins and last Friday’s varsity win due to the violation. Immediate action was taken by placing Athletic Director, Wayne Allegretto, and head football coach, Daniel Yeagley on administrative leave indefinitely for their supplemental coaching position.”
WYTV Media partners at The Morning Journal report that the violation involved a transfer student. OHSAA rules state that all transfers are required to sit out half the season. The newspaper reports that the unnamed player participated in two of the first five junior varsity contests, making him ineligible for the Raiders’ varsity game in week six.
