GROVE CITY, Pa. (WYTV) – For several men working in a trench near George Junior Road in Grove City, Wednesday was an average work day until things went wrong.
Two men working on a sewer lateral for a private residence about 2 p.m. were injured when an 8-foot trench collapsed on them. Rescue teams from Mercer, Pine Township and Grove City responded to the call.
Grove City Fire Chief Jeff Badger said one of the men was trapped up to his knees and the other was trapped up to his neck. When firefighters arrived, the second worker was still breathing and crews were able to remove the dirt to his waist.
Both of the mens’ brothers also were at the scene.
The man who was trapped up to his knee was checked by medics and was able to walk away. The other had to be rushed to the hospital by helicopter with a shoulder injury and lower extremity injuries.
Because it was a work-related accident, the Occupational Safety Health Administration will investigate.
The condition of the worker is unknown.
