Grand jury to hear Lordstown officer assault case

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A man charged with threatening police officers with a gun in Lordstown is being held without bond after a hearing in Federal Court on Tuesday.

George Rafidi, 60, appeared in Federal Court in Youngstown for a detention hearing where Magistrate Judge George Limbert ordered Rafidi to remain in custody of the U.S. Marshal and his case has been bound over to the grand jury.

Rafidi is charged with assaulting a federal officer after police attempted to serve a search warrant Oct. 8 at his Pleasant Valley Rd. S.W. home in Lordstown. Rafidi met officers at the door with a gun and pointed it at them, according to police reports.

Police fired three shots at Rafidi, but no one was hit by the gunfire.

Agents were serving the search warrant in what they called a food stamp trafficking investigation. Rafidi owns several convenient stores in the area.
