WARREN, Ohio (WYTV) – For the second time in a month, a Warren shopping plaza was hit by thieves stealing scrap metal, but police were able to make an arrest this time.
This latest incident happened late last night behind Giant Eagle plaza on Elm Road. An off-duty officer working security was alerted by a customer who saw three juveniles taking scrap into the woods behind the building.
The suspects, ages 17, 16 and 12 had a wheel barrel full of scrap that was freshly torn off the roof of the building. Earlier this month, someone stripped the guts out of five rooftop air units at the building causing $25,000 in damage.
“We are trying to see if possibly they are involved. If someone is having them do this just based on their age because we know that some 12-year-old is not old enough to go scrapping at the local scrap yards,” said Lieutenant Jeff Cole, Warren Police Department.
All three juveniles were released to their parents or guardians. Charges are expected to be filed through the Juvenile Justice Center.
