Fire destroys Firestone mansion

BEAVER TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WYTV) – The historical Firestone mansion went up in flames Tuesday morning.

The fire broke out at the house at the Firestone Tire testing facility in Beaver Township about 4 a.m.

Beaver Township fire officials said the age of the house was a factor in flames moving through the structure so quickly.

Only a few walls remained standing after the fire was extinguished.

No one was living in the house at the time of the fire.

A cause has not been determined.

The mansion was moved in 2011 to the other side of the testing facility to make room for an expansion project there. Firestone wanted to preserve the historical structure instead of tearing it down to make way for the expansion.

The house was originally built in 1880 by Henry Firestone.
