Reserve cruises into District Finals

Columbiana, OH (WYTV) – The Western Reserve volleyball team completed their 16th sweep of the season in a 3-0 win over Heartland Christian Tuesday in the Division IV District Semifinals.

The Blue Devils (20-4) won 25-18, 26-24, and 25-16 to punch their ticket to the District Finals Thursday against St. Thomas Aquinas (3-1 winners over Wellsville).

Reserve was led by senior Rachel Maslach, who had 15 points, and 18 kills, while senior Aleah Hughes added 22 digs and three aces. Marissa Phipps had 24 assists and Sydney Miller finished with 2 blocks.

Heartland Christian kept it close, especially in the second set, which they tied up at 24, before the game’s final two points.

The Lions (19-6)  were led by senior Kristen Osborn with 21 kills and 29 digs. Osborn finishes the season with as one of the leaders in the state with over 600 kills. She also set the school’s all-time kills record this season.

Senior Ginny Burress also added 7 points on the night, while Bonny Flynn had 4 aces.
