Mooney volleyball captures first-ever District Title

Cardinal Mooney District Champs

Salem, OH (WYTV) – Top seeded Cardinal Mooney came out on top of the Salem District with a 3-1 win over Mineral Ridge in the Division III District Championship game Wednesday.

The Cardinals (23-2) won 25-10, 20-25, 25-14, 25-22 to capture the first District Volleyball Championship in school history. Mooney advances to the Regional Semifinals against Gilmour Academy next Thursday at 6 p.m. at Barberton.

Mooney was led by senior Makenna Ozenghar, who filled in for an injured senior Gina Patella most of the game. Ozenghar finished with 41 assists, 29 digs, and aces.

Senior Mckenzie Reese had 16 kills and 14 digs, while senior Nichole Webber added 14 kills and 5 blocks. Senior Lauren Lottier chipped in 36 digs, and junior Maddie Abrigg contributed 13 kills.
