Fire chief’s quick action saves Mercer business

Fire at E&E Welding

MERCER, Pa. (WYTV) – If it weren’t for a firefighter that happened by a blaze in Mercer County, flames would have destroyed more than just an addition to a building.

The chief of the Rocky Grove Fire Department happened to be driving by E&E Welding and Exhaust, 460 N. Pitt St., about 4 a.m.. Wednesday when he saw flames coming from the structure.

He immediately called 911, grabbed a hose and began hosing off the main part of the building that wasn’t on fire to keep the flames from spreading.

The fire originated in an addition that housed a wood burning heater. The quick action of the fire chief saved the main building and a house next door.

Five fire departments responded to the fire. A damage estimate has not been set.

The fire remains under investigation.
