Local dogs heading to New Jersey shelter

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – It was a special rescue for three local dogs on Tuesday as part of the “Pilots and Pets” program at the Mahoning County Dog Pound.

A chartered flight took the three dogs to a shelter in New Jersey because the Mahoning County Dog Pound is full. Volunteers said they are thankful for the program.

“Our pound is full and we work all year long with different rescues to take different types of dogs we get in and foster them, and then they get adopted out to families,” volunteer Donna Seckman said.

The program is paid for strictly through fundraising events like charity auctions and candy bar sales. Anyone who would like to help with the program can call the Mahoning County Dog Pound.
