Columbiana, OH (WYTV) – Heartland Christian senior Kristen Osborn has been playing volleyball since fourth grade.
“Definitely, I love volleyball… and I would play it forever if I could,” she said.
Osborn led the Lions to their first sectional championship in school history this year, while breaking the school’s all-time record for kills, Her 650 kills on the season ranked first in the state, regardless of division.
“I guess I wouldn’t say it was a goal of mine, but I guess I’ve always tried to do my best in everything,” said Osborn. “And just glorify the Lord in everything i do and to me that means doing my best.”
Osborn is a 4.0 student, president of Student Council, and in line to class valedictorian. But the accolades she receives fails in comparison to what she gives. Osborn has twice volunteered on mission trips to a small village in Guatemala.
“When I went to Guatemala, just the joy in the kids faces is just amazing. Even if they don’t have that much… They are just such joyful spirits.”
Osborn spent her time working with kids at an orphanage. She helped build sidewalks, paint houses, and even scrub toilets.
“That’s a huge part of going to any third world country, it makes you appreciate what you have so much more,” she continued. “Even my family, and school, and friendships, it just makes me so much more thankful for what I have.”
“It just made me realize, there is something so much bigger that we all can work for. And that gave me a vision and direction for where I want to go.”
