Greenville stuffs Sharon in redzone for win

NEW WILMINGTON, Pennsylvania (WYTV) – After Greenville’s defensive stand inside the five-yard line sealed the Trojans’ 21-14 victory tonight over Sharon to make their first trip back to the district championship game since 2001.

Greenville (11-1) has won ten straight games now. Coach Brian Herrick’s bunch defeated Sharon (22-20) on October 24 to finish out their 2014 Region 3 schedule.

To open the scoring Gage Gladysz found Ben Reiser on a 36-yard touchdown strike to give the Trojans’ an early 7-0 lead.

With 56 seconds remaining in the first half, the Tigers’ A’Royal Ali returned an interception 65-yards to tie the game at 7. However, on the final play of the second quarter, Gage Gladysz tossed a 10-yard pass to Aaron Emmett to give the Trojans’ a 14-7 advantage entering the intermission.

To begin the second half, Sharon attempted an on-side kick as the Tigers recovered the loose ball on Greenville’s 47 yard line. After a Andrew Tomko 10-yard run for a first down, Tomko found Ziyon Strickland on a 34-yard pass for a game-tying touchdown (14-14).

Greenville began the second half with a drive which saw the Trojans’ garner five first downs which culminated on a 6-yard Nick Black touchdown.

Within the closing moments, Sharon had the ball on Greenville’s three-yard line on fourth down. The Tigers’ Tomko ran for the ball for no gain as Greenville secured their biggest victory of the year.
