Community supports Layup for Lauren challenge

Layup for Lauren

HOWLAND, Ohio (WYTV) – Two Trumbull County high schools showed their support for an Ohio college basketball player with incurable brain cancer.

Howland varsity boys and Maplewood varsity boys took part in the “Layup for Lauren” challenge, and so did area police and fire chiefs.

Lauren Hill only got to play one game for her Mount Saint Joseph team. Her story went national and now she’s raising awareness about her disease and issuing a cross country challenge.

“The challenge is to spin five times, with your non-dominate hand shoot the layup because that is the way she felt. So that supports her campaign here today. We were all inspired by her and wanted to support her,” Megan Durig of Howland High School said.

The school also set up a donation box for anyone who wanted to make a contribution.
