Video shows Mahoning jail inmate attacking nurse

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – An inmate of the Mahoning County Jail will face felony charges after a surprise attack on a jail employee Friday morning.

The sheriff’s office released video footage from the jail’s cameras. It shows inmate Deron Williams, 32, attacking Joyce O’Hara.

O’Hara is a nurse at the jail and was delivering medications. She was taken to Northside Medical Center, where she is being treated for cuts and a back injury.

Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene said the attack was unprovoked.

“We have watched the videos and it appears he just had it in his mind that he was going to assault one of our staff,” Greene said.

Court records show Williams is in jail on a felonious assault charge from Sept. 28 in which he is accused of attacking his father with a steak knife during an argument.
