Whistles Blow in downtown Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) — The Mahoning Valley Railroad Heritage Association held its annual Whistle Blow  in Youngstown Saturday.

Staged in the parking lot of the B&O Station, the event featured old-fashioned steam whistles that were used in factories and on trains.

Organizers say enthusiasts came from as far away as New York for the rare chance to hear the devices in action.

“This is an event that brings back memories for a lot of people from many years ago. And for collectors who have whistles in their collection that don’t get to hear them often anymore,” said Joe Vasko, MVRHA.

Proceeds from today’s event help the group’s preserve steel-mill railroad rolling stock and locomotives that are on display along Poland Avenue.

Youngstown Thermal supplied the steam and Eagle Boiler donated some of the equipment.
