Fitch High School holds ALS event

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) — A Fitch High School senior organized a run/walk event for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) research which brought out people by the dozens on Sunday night.

Garen Gibson said he never expected the event to get so big. In fact, it started out as an assignment for an English class at Austintown Fitch. However, people quickly started getting involved.

He said in one day the number of participants went from 40 to 80, and he’s thrilled with Sunday’s turnout.

“It’s just important to get the community together. I didn’t expect all of these people to even come here. It’s awesome. I only told a few people at first, and then I put it on social media and stuff,” said Gibson.

In all, about 130 people came out, raising more than $1,000.
