Youngstown traffic stop under investigation

Youngstown Police

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Youngstown police are conducting an internal review of a traffic stop late last week involving the family member of an officer.

According to police reports, Joseph Slattery, 54, was pulled over Friday evening along Mahoning Avenue for running a traffic light.

The officer making the stop said he found an open can of beer on the floor of the car but at some point determined Slattery was not under the influence of alcohol. He was given citations for failing to obey the red light and having an open container.

The Internal Affairs Unit with the Youngstown Police Department will review the case to determine whether Slattery was given any preferential treatment.
