CHAMPION, Ohio (WYTV) – A fire in Champion Township has claimed the life of a woman.
Crews were called about 11:50 a.m. Monday to a house at 6033 Mahoning Avenue. When they arrived, the house was engulfed in flames.
The woman, believed to be in her 40s, was home alone at the time the fire broke out but did not live alone in the house. She had limited mobility which may have prevented her from exiting the house.
The victim’s body was found in the kitchen area of the home where investigators say she may have suffered “smoke related issues.”
Multiple crews responded to the scene including Warren Township, Bazetta, Howland, Bristol and the Air Reserve Station.
Officials have not identified the victim.
The house was completely destroyed. The cause is under investigation.
