YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – John Dellick, son of Mahoning County Juvenile Court Judge Teresa Dellick, pleaded guilty Monday to charges in two cases in Mahoning County Court.
Dellick pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in an October 2013 road rage incident and simple assault in another case involving his former girlfriend.
The October incident happened on Lockwood Boulevard and U.S. Route 224 in Canfield Township where police say Dellick struck the back of a vehicle driven by Angelo Gomez, 58, after Gomez yelled at Dellick for throwing a bottle out of his car along the busy road.
Dellick repeatedly hit his brakes while traveling ahead of Gomez. At one point, Dellick got behind Gomez and struck the back of Gomez’s car.
Dellick’s father John Dellick said his son has suffered through a number of medical and mental health issues.
“Unfortunately, that is not a defense to some of these things. He has accepted responsibility and we hope to get him back on track,” Dellick said.
Dellick said until last year, some of his son’s problems had not been discovered but he is now on medication.
“That probably contributed to the outbursts. Our doctors indicated that many of these things would not have occurred if he had been properly diagnosed,” Dellick said.
Additional charges, including racial intimidation, were dropped in exchange for Dellick’s guilty plea on the assault charges.
Sentencing is scheduled for February.
Dellick could face up to two years in prison in addition to fines.
