WARREN, Ohio (WYTV) – It took 73 years, but a local family is finally getting military awards earned by their father.
Lucian “Sam” Biviano was on the USS Oklahoma when it was attacked at Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941. His family received six awards Monday in his name. All were presented by the office of Senator Sherrod Brown during a ceremony at First Presbyterian Church in Warren.
Two thousand Sailors were killed in the attack, 460 of them were on the USS Oklahoma with Biviano.
“My father did talk about that he was on the Oklahoma. He was at the battle but he never discussed the battle per se because I think it was such a traffic and emotional impact for him,” said Adrian Biviano, son of Lucian Biviano. “
Biviano saw even more combat after Pearl Harbor and was discharged in 1945. He graduated from Youngstown State University and worked for 34 years as a tax agent for the Ohio Department of Taxation.
Ohio veterans and the family members of deceased veterans may request military records and medals by contacting Senator Sherrod Brown.
