Couple accused in area burglaries indicted

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A boyfriend-girlfriend burglary team that police said targeted homes around the area was indicted Thursday on numerous charges.

Dawna Starr Martin, 29, of Youngstown, is facing two counts of burglary. Jason Paul Sitnic, 28, also of Youngstown, is facing six counts of burglary. Both remain at the Mahoning County Jail pending their arraignments next week.

Police arrested Sitnic following a break-in at a house in Poland last month. His girlfriend, Martin, was arrested a few days later at a home on the west side where police said she had been hiding.

Prior to her arrest, Martin escaped from St. Elizabeth Health Center, where she was being treated for a highly infectious bacterial disease, known as MRSA, in her leg. Police said that was the second time in two weeks that she escaped from the hospital.

Police said Sitnic and Martin are heroin addicts and had been stealing to feed their drug habits. Over a six-week period, police believe they were responsible for at least eight burglaries in Poland, Canfield Township and Austintown.
