BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – A group of people got a special present Thursday – the gift of hearing.
The Centers for Hearing care fitted about 28 people with new, free hearing aids.
The program is part of the annual Hearing for the Holidays mission.
The event is specifically for people who can’t afford hearing aids and a financial screening process is conducted for those that apply.
The price tag on each aid set is $6,000.
“Most of them are making decisions every month – do I pay my electric bill, do I get my prescription medicines, but hearing is something that just can’t be thought of,” said Dr. Sheryl Figliana, Centers for Hearing. “What a greater gift to give than the precious gift of hearing. It is like winning the lottery for these folks.”
Each patient also gets free office visits and care for a year.
Applications are being taken next year’s mission. For more information call 330-726-3339.
