Ursuline cheerleader recovering after heart procedure

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – An Ursuline cheerleader who collapsed during basketball game is recovering after undergoing a heart procedure.

According to a news release from Ursuline High School, Lauren Petro, a junior, was treated at Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest. The team of pediatric cardiologists who treated her implanted an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) to prevent her from suffering cardiac arrest in the future.

The family thanked the community to their prayers and concern after Petro fell ill at the Dec. 9 Ursuline vs. Massillon Perry basketball game.
