WYTV hosts Big 22 Awards Banquet

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – WYTV hosted the ninth annual Big 22 Awards Banquet Thursday night at Antone’s Banquet Center in Boardman.

The top 22 high school football players from Ohio and Pennsylvania were honored at the event. Players of the Year honors went to Hubbard’s L.J. Scott and West Middlesex’s Eric Lucich.

The Big 22 Class of 2014 includes the following valley football standouts:

Joe Alessi (South Range): 2,507 yards rushing, 38 Td’s, 12.9 yards per carry / Broke school rushing record

Jesse Best (Crestview): 73 of 171 for 1073 yards, 10 TD, 188 carries for 1281 yards, 21 TD

Lynn Bowden (Liberty):12 games. 1,943 rushing yards (9.6 yards per carry), 25 rushing touchdowns. 889 yards passing, 14 passing touchdowns.

Logan Clarke (Mercer): 185 of 305, 2,426 yards, 21 Td’s / 126 carries, 470 yards, 3 Td’s / 35 tackles, 3 INT, 1 FF

John Clegg (Western Reserve): 104 of 195 for 1982 yards, 21 TD, 86 carries for 357, 6 TD

Mitch Davidson (Columbiana): 906 yards rushing, 11 Td’s / 2,180 yards passing, 25 Td’s, 14 school records

Caleb Dimery (McDonald): 106 carries, 1,094 yards, 15 Td’s / 4 rec, 88 yards, 1 TD / 68 tackles, 6 tfl, 2 sacks, 3 FF, 1 INT for TD

Joe Falasca (Western Reserve): 39 catches for 748 yards, 13 TD

Antwan Harris (Austintown Fitch): 1,446 rushing yards, 18 TD’s, 7.8 yards/carry, 86-153 passing, 1011 yards, 10 TD’s

Tyler Hewlett (Austintown Fitch): 787 rushing yards, avg. 7.1 yards/carry, 12 rushing TD’s,  136 total tackles, 73 solo stops, 14 TFL’s, 8 sacks

George Hill (Hubbard): 100 carries for 1106 yards, 11.1 average, 13 TD, 5 catches for 73 yards, 1 TD

Zach Hover (Western Reserve): 61 solo tackles, 100 total, 17 sacks, 2 FF, 1 FR, 34 TFL

Jordan Jones (Cardinal Mooney): 185 tackles, 10 sacks, 5 FF, 4 FR

Ryan Kohler (Springfield): 218 carries for 1667 yards, 7.6 avg, 29 TD, 28 catches for 394 yards, 4 TD

Eric Lucich (West Middlesex): 195 carries for 2026 yards, 10.4 avg, 28 TD (29 total), 138 total tackles, 3 sacks, 6 FF

Keemari Murry (Warren Harding): 1,178 yards rushing, 10 Td’s, 6.7 yards per carry

Vito Penza (Ursuline): 173 carries, 979 yards rushing, 12 Td’s / 58 of 156, 736 yards passing, 5 TD’s

Andrew Pryts (Hickory): 71 carries for 387 yards, 3 TD, 1 passing TD, 47 catches for 697 yards, 11 TD, 62 total tackles, 3 INT

LJ Scott (Hubbard): 295 carries for 2819 yards, 9.6 avg, 38 TD, 8 catches for 110 yards, 5 INT, 1 FR.

Trey Staunch (West Middlesex): 69 of 144 for 907 yards, 10 TD, 155 carries for 933 yards, 17 TD, 61 total tackles, 5 sacks, INT, 2 FR

Corey Snyder (West Branch): 1,519 passing yards, 15 Td’s / 680 rushing yards, 11 TD’s

Tyler Taafe (Hubbard): 58 solo tackles, 108 total, 21 for loss, 7 sacks, 1 INT, 1 FR

The Five Blocks of Granite Awards were presented to the area’s top lineman:

Six coaches of the year were also presented with awards based on their achievements on the gridiron this Fall:

Previous Big 22 Players of the Year include: Dan Herron (current member of the Indianapolis Colts), Fitzgerald Toussaint (current member of the Baltimore Ravens), De’Veon Smith (current Michigan standout), and Akise Teague (previous Ohio Mr. Football).
