Special Mass held for New York officers

Two New York City police officers were ambushed and shot.

NEW YORK CITY (WYTV) — New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and Police Commissioner William Bratton attended a Mass on Sunday at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, where they were greeted by Cardinal Timothy Dolan.

De Blasio and the president police union have been battling publicly over treatment of officers following the grand jury’s decision to not indict a police officer in the choking death of Eric Garner.

Just days ago, the union president suggested police sign a petition that demanded the mayor not attend their funerals should they die on the job.

On Saturday, some officers turned their backs on de Blasio as he walked into the hospital.

The police union head also declared there’s “blood on the hands” of protesters and the city’s mayor.
