Runners raise money for teacher's fight against ALS

CANFIELD, Ohio (WYTV) — The warmer weather made for great running conditions Saturday in Canfield.

About 600 runners hit the pavement at the Canfield Fairgrounds for this year’s Jingle Bell Run.

Registration fees for the 5K raised money for American Cancer Society and Chip In For Chris. The charity supports former Boardman High School teacher Christine Terlesky in her fight against ALS.

“And with the medical bills, which I’m sure are adding up. I’m sure it’s peace of mind to have some extra money there to help out with whatever we can do to make her life a little easier and her family’s life a little easier,” said Christine Ignazio, the Jingle Bell Run organizer.

The kids started the day’s events with a half-mile race for runners age 12 and under. Organizers say Saturday was one of the warmest of the 17 years the Jingle Bell Run has taken place.
