YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A group of students from Austintown Middle School are preparing for their next competition by pitching their project to the Youngstown Business Incubator.
The kids are part of the S.M.A.R.T. Cookie team. Their project focuses on finding an innovative way to help somebody learn. They’ve already won an Innovation award at the Warren regional event for the smart phone and tablet app they designed to help kids who suffer from ADD or ADHD and retain mathematical skills.
“We found that it is because the lectures and that having the app helps them because they can continually move and have the range of motion instead of sitting at a desk,” said Elise Yantes, S.M.A.R.T. Cookie team.
Youngstown Incubator CEO Jim Cossler said they get pitches every day from adults and some of those don’t measure up to what the kids presented.
“I told the kids they did far better than a lot of adults that pitch to us about ideas. It was really, really well done,” Cossler said.
The SMART cookies will be competing again in a district event on January 10.
