YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – The Mahoning County Salvation Army released the numbers from its Red Kettle campaign on Monday and once again, the agency reached its goal.
The goal this year was to raise $345,000. After every penny was counted, the total came to $345,000 and an extra $371. Last year, the Salvation Army raised nearly $328,000.
The Red Kettle campaign is the biggest fundraiser undertaken by the organization each year. All donations stay in Mahoning County and are used to provide Christmas assistance and other services to those in need year round.
As of Christmas Eve, the campaign was about $18,000 short of its goal.
