EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio (WYTV) – A woman is homeless after a fire destroyed a duplex at 102 and 104 Ravine Street Monday afternoon.
East Liverpool Fire Chief William Jones said only one side of the duplex was occupied, but the woman was not home at the time of the fire. He said several passersby called in the blaze just after 2:30 p.m.
Jones said the cause is still under investigation, but it started on the occupied side of the duplex. He said the home is a total loss and estimated damage to the building at $50,000, but said it could be higher.
The woman who lived there is staying with a friend, the chief said. No one was injured and crews remained on scene for about six hours.
Jones said the bitter cold temperatures made battling the flames difficult and the road froze up from the water used to extinguish the fire.
