Series History: Ursuline has defeated Mooney in seven consecutive meetings…The last time, the Cardinals were able to come away with a victory was on December 17, 2010. On that night, Danny Reese scored 14 of his game-high 21 points in the fourth frame to ignite Mooney’s second half comeback and top the Irish, 55-49.

Noteworthy
Ursuline lost to state power Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary (66-59) on December 13. Since that setback, the Irish have accumulated seven straight wins. Coach Gunther’s group has topped the 70-point mark in five of their last seven games.

David Collins scored 29 points in Ursuline’s 75-69 victory over East Liverpool in the Potter Holiday Classic Championship contest. Collins was named the Most Valuable Player of the two-day event. This past Monday, Greg Parella led Ursuline with 32 points in their 68-55 win over Sharon.

Mooney opened the season with an undefeated 5-0 mark after their win over Boardman (69-55) on December 27. However, the Cardinals dropped two straight right around the 1st of the year to Lake Catholic (76-66) and to Canton South (65-59). Through the team’s first four contests, Mooney’s defense allowed an average of 41.5 points. Since then, the Cardinals have allowed 59.8 in four games.

The Cardinals snapped their two-game skid on Tuesday when they knocked off JFK, 63-43. Trell Thomas scored 18 and Andrew Armstrong added 15 points and 8 rebounds for the victorious Cardinals.
