YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Furnaces are working around the clock during this latest cold snap, and local shops are getting lots of calls.
Technicians say you can avoid issues by checking on things well before arctic air hits.
Bob Thompson with Clayton Heating and Cooling had 20 no heat calls by noon on Thursday.
“Simple flame sensor cleaning to a failed blower motor or even to the point of a failed furnace,” Thompson said.
Thompson is the head service technician for the company. He walked our cameras through the checks technicians make on calls.
The air cleaner is the first check. Digital meters help monitor flame signal and ignitor strength. Thompson said the ignitor is a component that should be cleaned every year.
Owner Gene Clayton said keep the temperature of the furnace where you want it. Just remember that when it is cold, your furnace is constantly running, so the temperature might not match what you are feeling. At times the furnace can’t keep up.
