Woman charged in connection with Warren child beating

WARREN, Ohio (WYTV) – A Trumbull County grand jury indicted a woman in connection with the beating of a four-year-old girl.

Police charged Kayla Liller with felonious assault and endangering children during her arraignment Wednesday morning.

Liller turned herself in and has been released after posting bond.

Authorities said Liller is the girlfriend of Tedy Mendez, who was charged in January with beating the girl, his daughter.

Mendez was also charged with felonious assault and child endangerment.

Mendez is accused of beating the girl so badly that she suffered a fractured skull, broken elbow, a brain bleed and several contusions.

Investigators believe Mendez and his Liller, with whom the child was staying for a visit, tried to cover up the assault by delaying the return of the child to her mother until the bruising wasn’t so apparent.

While the assault happened in Warren, Mahoning County Children Services Board CSB is involved in the case because the girl’s mother lives in Youngstown.
