Funeral director enters plea agreement after theft charges

McClurkin funeral director

GIRARD, Ohio (WYTV) — Funeral director Patrick McClurkin, 48, entered a plea agreement with the Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office Friday after being accused of stealing $400,000 from his customers.

McClurkin plead guilty to counts of theft from an elderly or disabled person, grand theft, and violation of a pre-paid funeral contract.

The Ohio Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors said in a statement that the funeral home violated Ohio laws regarding the placement of money received for pre-paid funeral contracts.

The board suspended the funeral director’s licenses at a meeting in September 2013 following the investigation.

McClurkin was not sentenced Friday. Some of the other charges against McClurkin were dropped as a part of the agreement.
