Suspect arrested in fire that damaged 5 buildings

A suspect was arrested in connection to a massive fire near Pittsburgh, Pa.


HOMESTEAD, Pa. (WYTV) – Pittsburgh police say they have charged a man with arson in connection with a destructive fire outside the city Friday.

Edward McDonald, 27, if facing arson related charges.

Two buildings collapsed in the fire and a woman and a man were treated at UPMC Mercy Hospital for smoke inhalation.

Two other people were rescued from the blaze.

A total of 22 fire departments were called to fight the flames that quickly spread to nearby buildings.

One block of the main street – 8th Avenue – was expected to remain closed through the weekend because at least one of the damaged buildings was a threat to collapse onto traffic.
