‘Get Wild’ event to fund survival kits for homeless

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Get wild with Tent City. That was the slogan for a fundraiser in Youngstown Saturday to benefit the homeless, specifically those who live under the bridge at the Mahoning River.

The fundraiser was aimed at raising money to help provide the homeless with survival gear, getting them jobs and back on their feet.

The fundraiser’s main dishes included moose, venison, pheasant and turkey.

Even those getting the survival kits helped lend a hand.

“We ask that the people who able to put in four hours of work at the garden to get their basic survival unit,” said board member David Hull.

Emcee Kim Uris said the program in not a handout; it is a handup

“We are helping people with work and with dignity. If we are enabling anything, we enabling people to live and see another day,” Uris said.

The event had a 50/50 auction, basket raffle and live music from The Acoustic Harvest Band.
