OSP advises slow down on icy, snowy roads

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) — With the snow moving into the valley the Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding drivers to have their cars ready for snowy driving conditions.

33 WYTV News talked to one state trooper about what drivers need to do to prepare for a messy commute.

Snowy and icy weather, changes road conditions, making them more slippery than normal. In addition to limiting your distractions while driving, Ohio state patrol advises drivers to use extra caution.

“The biggest thing that you want to do, is that you want to slow down. Increase the reactionary gap to the car in front of you, which means increase the distance between the car in front of you. Gives you a chance to slow down, gives you a chance to react in case there’s something in front of you that may impead your traffic,” said OSP Trooper David Brown.

If you don’t have plans to drive anywhere, parking bans are in place in Leetonia, Salem, and Struthers through 6 p.m. Monday.
