GIRARD, Ohio (WYTV — Students at Girard’s St. Rose School celebrated Catholic Schools Week by jumping rope for a good cause on Tuesday.
Students in grades kindergarten through fourth took part in Jump Rope 4 Heart, a fundraiser sponsored by the American Heart Association.
Girard’s Mayor, Jim Melfi, and school principal also took part. It’s all for the American Heart Association.
The children also took part in some other heart-healthy activities.
“We have a heart student here its our heart hero and we are jumping for her because she was born with a heart defect so she is our first reason and we are also doing it because for our school our mission is we help others and we are helping others with heart disease,” said St. Rose’s Physical Education teacher Renee Macali.
Mayor Melfi helped the students start the program by being one of the first to start jumping.
Students are hoping to raise $5,000 for the American Heart Association. Over the years they have raised over $20,000.
