joseph faunda arrested in connection with youngstown death investigation

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Youngstown Police have arrested a man in connection with the investigation into the death of an elderly man on the city’s west side.

Police arrested Joseph Faunda, 44, charging him with receiving stolen property. Police said he was seen driving the car of Mykola Iwaniuk, 84, whom police found dead in his Oakwood Ave. home on Jan. 21.

Faunda’s arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday.

Police said Iwaniuk had been dead for at least a day and had multiple blunt injuries to the back of his head when they found him.

Hours after police found Iwaniuk, as his body was being taken to the coroner’s office for an autopsy, officers found his car a few blocks away in Calvary Cemetery. It was covered with snow on it and may have been there for some time.
