YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Long-time friends are remembering Don Guthrie, including a man whom Don was a fan of for years.
Youngstown State President Jim Tressel said Don, “always had an ability to do for others.” Tressel called him, “a special part of this community,” and a man who “always took the time to do the right thing.”
The YSU president was grateful that Don reconnected with him when Tressel returned to the Valley last year.
“You would never know, when you’re sitting with him and he’s going through those battles, that there was an ounce of disappointment in his eyes,” Tressel said. “He just had that ability to be grateful and thankful and make you feel comfortable.”
Don was a long-time Buckeyes fan. A few months ago, Tressel surprised Don at his home just to chat about the Buckeyes on their championship run.
