Niles mayor files for another run

NILES, Ohio (WYTV) – Niles Mayor Ralph Infante has filed to seek a seventh straight term to lead the city.

According to the Tribune Chronicle, it is a move that will cause a shake-up on the Trumbull County Board of Elections. Infante, a Democrat and secretary of the Trumbull County Democratic Party, has surrendered his seat on the four-person board because he is prohibited by Ohio law from being on the board and running for elected office at the same time.

Auditor of Sate David Yost placed Niles in a state of fiscal emergency in October 2014, calling the city’s financial situation “dire.” Just recently a commission was formed of local and state officials to come up with a plan to bring the city to back financial health.
